The Commonwealth of Massachusetts recently launched a new user-friendly health care transparency website (CompareCare: www.MassCompareCare.gov) . Quality data displayed comes from CMS Hospital Compare and the Leapfrog Hospital Survey (maternity care data). AHRQ Patient safety measures are derived from the CHIA Hospital Discharge Database. CompareCare contains information about the cost of roughly 300 common medical services and procedures, including office visits, X-rays, MRIs, colonoscopies, and mammograms. The site will show the total amount paid to a health care provider for a medical service, including the insurance company’s share and the patient’s share of the cost. The prices currently displayed are based on commercial insurance claims from 2015.
