This chart was presented to DOH and CCLC. Feedback was that it was an elegant simple and effective visual. The data points include metrics attempted, goals, actual achievement, metric category etc. Simple bar chart with heat map. Because % achievement for each of the three segments of the bar (three metric categories) are each potentially 100%, the X axis was reading 0-300%. DOH wanted to see which projects had achieved at least 75 % of their goals. I placed a manual reference line (vertical) at 225% on the X axis. At first there was some visual confusion until I decided to remove the 'header' from the X axis. With no scale to confuse the viewer, their eye can fill in the concept of 75% achievement based on the reference line. I picked up this tip from a Kaiser Fung presentation on data viz. Sometimes removing information makes the graphic clearer.
